Poetic Justice Braids

ATTENTION EVERYONE, ATTENTION, our lovely Ms. Janet Jackson has been spotted at Milan's fashion week rocking her signature poetic justice braids, looking fabulous as ever.

(Jumbo) box braids have officially been deemed as the Poetic Justice Braids. Janet Jackson was one of the first celebrities to rock this look on the big screen in 1993 and since then the look has been apart of the black community. In the first part of the millennium the "Poetic Justice" braids died down and micro  braids came into style. Over the past year, the braids have resurfaced, and some people have had some negative things to say. I think the braids are awesome, it contributes to the versatility of hair in the black community and I am excited to see the originator rocking the braids once again. Don't be surprised if you see me rocking a set of my own braids in a few months.

Also in recent news, rapper Kendrick Lamar has reached out to Ms. Jackson in hopes of having her make a guest appearance in his music video POETIC JUSTIC. Not only is the track called Poetic Justice, but it also samples parts of Janet Jackson's song ANYTIME ANYPLACE.

Kendrick reached out to Janet by saying, "Janet, c’mon, Janet! No paperwork with the managers, contact the managers. This is artist to artist. This is a young boy that looked up to you for years. Please, yeah, video, Janet Jackson ‘Poetic Justice.’ It’ll only be right.

Unfortunately Janet did not want to participate in the video and left Kendrick hanging. I personally wish she would have appeared in the video, but hey  I guess she had her reasons not too.

TLC Biopic

The time has finally arrived ladies and gentlemen, the hit 90s group TLC ( our AINT TO PROUD TO BEG girls) will finally have their very own biopic. The movie will be produced through the hit televisions station VHI and will be given the titled of (CRAZY, SEXY, COOL: The TLC Story)

The original group members were singer Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and singer Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. Left Eye passed away in 2002 due to a car accident. TLC was known as the girl group who were not afraid to push the limits. The limits were pushed through their crazy outfits and their explicit song lyrics.

The cast for the movie has finally been pick and will consist of rapper and (VMA stage crasher) Lil Mama as Left Eye, Keke Palmer as Chilli and actress Drew Sidora (The Game) as T-Boz.

T-Boz and Chilli stated they did not want well known actress portraying them in the film and perferred if the cast members were well known but not to big.

I ADORE TLC, they were the first girl group I obsessed over. Before their was Destiny's Child there was TLC. I remember growing up me, my sister, my god sister Mekia, and extended cousin Robyn played TLC and we always fought over who would play which group member.

One of the first sexual songs I listened to when I was younger was TLC's RED LIGHT SPECIAL. I was so curious as a young girl and really wanted to know what was the true meaning of this song. I eventually found out and to this day it's still a favorite song of mines. I am excited for the bio pic and can't wait to see what these fabulous ladies bring to the big screen, especially (Lil Mama) she better bring it or else the critics are going to eat her ALIVE.

Kate Lanier of “Glitter” fame wrote the script and Charles Stone III (“Drumline”) will be directing the biopic. No word on release the release date, so in the mean time we will now have to wait.

Betty and Coretta

To kick off the beginning of Black History Month 2013, Lifetime will air the movie Betty and Coretta. The premiere of the film brings a huge smile to my face. This is a story that needs to be told. It elaborates on the women that stood behind the activist men that we knew.

This movie focuses on two wives and how they deal with the assasinations of their husband. Coretta Scott King and Dr Betty Shabazz.

Coretta was the late wife of The Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr and Betty was the wife of Malcom X. When Malcom was assassinated Coretta came to her side and together they struggle to continue on their husband's legacy.

Coretta Scott King is played by Angela Basset while the role of Dr Betty Shabazz is played by R&B singer Mary J Blidge. Both of these women tell a story about how they continued to fight for what their husbands believed in while also being single mothers.

Their husband might have been killed but their IDEAs continue to thrive on. This movie displays the power of friendship and shows just how strong a woman can be when she is faced with adversity. Be sure to watch the movie tonight on lifetime at 8pm eastern time, 7pm central time, and 6pm mountain time.

I hope you guys enjoy the movie, and learn a few things about these 2 great women. Watch the preview and check out more pictures from the movie below.
